Prof. Fabio Galasso

Founder

Prof. Fabio Galasso is the co-founder of ItalAI. At ItalAI, Fabio leads applied research in the field of computer vision and machine learning, working with the scientists and our partners to define new solutions for each novel technological challenge.

Fabio strives for defining the new state-of-the-art in the theory and application fields of ItalAI. Fabio is passionate about technology and about the technological transfer of ideas into products. In addition to his role at ItalAI, Fabio heads the Perception and Intelligence Lab (PINLab) at Sapienza University of Rome, where he conducts fundamental research in AI. Prior to this, Fabio founded and directed the Computer Vision Department at OSRAM (Munich, Germany), an international team conducting R&D in artificial intelligence, computer vision and machine learning, in relation to smart lighting applications. Fabio also conducted research on video analysis and segmentation, scene understanding and clustering at the University of Cambridge (UK) and at the Max Planck Institute for Informatics (Germany).

Fabio has served as area and industrial chair at international top conferences, as reviewer for journals and conferences, and as co-chair of international workshops.

Fabio's innovation transfer successes include the VISN product, which was awarded the 2019 IoT/WT Innovation World Cup, the 2019 Digital Champions Award, and the 2018 Deutscher Digital Award. Fabio is inventor in 30 granted patents.

Luca Franco

Lead Researcher

Luca Franco is the general Manager at ItalAI, specializing in artificial intelligence with a focus on machine learning, data science, and computer vision.
With deep expertise in developing innovative AI models, Luca leads groundbreaking research in areas such as uncertainty estimation, active domain adaptation, and forecasting.
In ItalAI he is driving the development of advanced AI technologies, bringing impactful solutions to real-world challenges.

Luca holds a Ph.D. in Data Science from Sapienza University of Rome with a background in Mathematics, where his research covered key areas such as human motion modeling, hyperbolic neural networks, and trajectory forecasting.
His work has been published in prestigious conferences like ICML and ICLR, demonstrating his deep knowledge of active learning, domain adaptation, and sequence modeling.

Stefano Rando

Lead Researcher

Stefano Rando is a Machine Learning researcher at ItalAI, specializing in the development of deep learning architectures and the exploration of large language models (LLMs).
With a Master’s degree in Data Science and a Bachelor’s in Mathematics from Sapienza University of Rome, Stefano's expertise spans optimization, transfer learning, and AI for materials discovery.

He previously worked as a Machine Learning researcher at Panasonic North America, focusing on AI-driven solutions.
Proficient in a wide range of programming languages and frameworks, including Python, TensorFlow, and Pytorch, Stefano is passionate about coding and continuously exploring new technologies in the AI landscape.

Paolo Mandica

Lead Researcher

Paolo is a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science and AI at Sapienza University of Rome. His research is focused on advancing artificial intelligence in the domains of limited data learning and uncertainty quantification.
Paolo has collaborated with leading institutions and companies, such as UC Berkely and Panasonic's Silicon Valley R&D group, leading breakthrough studies published in prestigious venues like ICLR, ICML and ECCV.
Paolo's contributions include novel approaches to self-supervised learning, active domain adaptation, and multimodal learning, with a distinctive focus on applying hyperbolic geometry to AI challenges.
With a background in Computer Science and Engineering, Paolo is our leading expert in developing cutting-edge AI models and applying them to real-world problems.

Alessandro Flaborea

Lead Researcher

Alessandro Flaborea, Ph.D., is an AI innovator currently leading a startup in collaboration with ItalAI.
This venture builds on the cutting-edge research he conducted during his Ph.D., where he focused on revolutionizing AI-powered systems.
His work now drives advancements in areas like procedural learning, video anomaly detection, and generative AI models, positioning his startup at the forefront of AI innovation.

Alessandro completed his Ph.D. at Sapienza University of Rome, where his research explored procedural learning, anomaly detection, hyperbolic neural networks, and large language models.
His work has been featured in leading conferences, including "PREGO: Online Mistake Detection in Procedural Egocentric Videos" (CVPR 2024) and "Hyp2Nav: Hyperbolic Planning for Crowd Navigation" (oral at IROS 2024).
His academic background laid a strong foundation in AI, shaping his expertise in machine learning and computer vision.

Cristiana Polici

Administration

Cristiana Polici is an expert in administrative management, currently leading the administration at ItalAI.
She specializes in financial administration, managing fiscal bonus claims, invoice processing, and coordinating complex accounting systems.
With a keen eye for detail and exceptional organizational abilities, she excels in optimizing office operations, ensuring efficiency across various administrative processes.
Cristiana is also skilled in problem-solving, decision-making, and team collaboration, making her a valuable asset in any organizational setting.

Matteo Migliarini

Researcher

Matteo Migliarini is a data scientist and computer engineer with a strong background in machine learning, sequence modeling, and statistical analysis.
Currently completing his M.Sc. in Data Science at Sapienza University of Rome, Matteo will start his Ph.D. in Computer Vision under the supervision of Prof. Fabio Galasso in the PinLab.

Matteo has collaborated on innovative research projects, including the development of SeRpEnt, a state-of-the-art sequence modeling approach that was accepted as a workshop at ICML 2024.

In addition to his academic achievements, Matteo has practical experience as a Junior Java Full Stack Developer, where he contributed to the development of a dashboard monitoring system for the Ministry of Health.
Passionate about exploring new subjects, Matteo's expertise spans a variety of programming languages and frameworks, and he is driven to push the boundaries of automated learning and model interpretability.

Luca Romani

Alessio Sampieri

Researcher

Alessio is a PhD student at Sapienza University of Rome focusing on interpreting/evaluating human-related AI methods.
His research embraces innovations in motion analysis, anomaly detection, interaction modeling, and synthesis.
His contribution to fields such as pose estimation, motion synthesis, and social navigation aim to study and properly investigate and optimize human interactions in 3D space.
Alessio's expertise in refining AI models for complex tasks is evidenced by publications at top-tier conferences.

Stefano D'Arrigo

Stefano D’Arrigo is a Ph.D. student in Artificial Intelligence at the Sapienza University of Rome.
His research interests include video anomaly and out-of-distribution detection, human-related features estimation, and geometric representations.
His publications feature "Contracting Skeletal Kinematics for Human-Related Video Anomaly Detection" (Pattern Recognition Journal 2024) and "Multimodal Motion Conditioned Diffusion Model for Skeleton-based Video Anomaly Detection" (ICCV 2023)

Federico Pace

Web Development Intern

Federico Pace is a web developer currently collaborating with ItalAI, where he works on both front-end and back-end development for the company's website and AI-related applications.
With a solid background in web development and proficiency in technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Python, Federico plays a key role in building and optimizing digital solutions for the company.
Federico is pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science at Roma Tre University, further strengthening his expertise in programming and digital technologies.
His skill set includes experience in game engines like Unity2D and Godot, as well as a solid understanding of database management and web development frameworks.

Anastasiia Motyreva

Social Communication Intern

Anastasiia Motyreva is a communications specialist currently collaborating with ItalAI, where she develops communication strategies and manages social media campaigns for the startup.
With a Master’s degree in International Cooperation and Sustainable Development from Sapienza University of Rome and a Bachelor’s in Political Science from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, she has a solid academic background in strategic communications.

Anastasiia also brings expertise in process optimization, marketing, and project management, honed through her leadership training with Gold Apple.
Her proficiency in social media is further demonstrated by her followers (over 11k), highlighting her ability to build and manage a strong online presence.

Susanna Bravi

ML Engineering Intern

Susanna Bravi is a Data Science student at Sapienza Università di Roma with a strong foundation in statistical analysis and machine learning.
She has gained valuable experience as a teaching assistant and student representative, supporting academic improvements and organizing training camps in collaboration with leading companies like KPMG and Leonardo.
Susanna has worked on advanced projects involving natural language processing and AI-generated text detection.

Marta Fanti

Marta Fanti is an undergraduate student in Mathematical Sciences for Artificial Intelligence at Sapienza University of Rome, with a strong academic record and a passion for interdisciplinary research.
She is part of the prestigious Percorso d’Eccellenza program and is pursuing an advanced Master's program at the Scuola Superiore di Studi Avanzati.
Marta is currently collaborating with ItalAI to develop a demo based on the PREGO paper, applying her skills in artificial intelligence to real-world projects.

In addition to her academic achievements, Marta has participated in various extracurricular activities, including math competitions, peer tutoring, and experimental physics projects, further enhancing her diverse skill set.
